“In recent years my work has been to find the solutions, methods or artistic modes of an idea generated by a series of my past.

I Am developing a single work that never ends and from each painting, each series is unleashed an enigma to solve. The exhibitions are the result that re-opens new tracks for a new series. Always in my paintings and collages I seek to combine a vocabulary established between abstraction and figuration, mixing vegetable and organic structures with more abstract patterns.

I try to transmit in them, the mix that I aspire and I live. My images are born of my passion to combine, gather, unite, stir, agitate, tangle, textures and semi-human figures within spaces or sea-terrestrial landscapes.”

IMPERMANENCE https://laestaciongallery.com/portfolio_page/impermanence/ https://laestaciongallery.com/portfolio_page/impermanence/#respond Thu, 04 Jul 2019 21:03:40 +0000 http://laestaciongallery.com/?post_type=portfolio_page&p=3656 Exhibition: Impermanence

Date: 5/7/2019

Opening: 18:00 – 22:00 hrs.

“Impermanence is the main quality of existence. Everything changes; nothing stays the same; nothing lasts.”

WITHOUT and WITHIN – Ajahn Jaysaro

Ichiro Irie is a curator, professor, musician and artist that stands up for himself as a strange, well balanced mixture of cultures, not only from Japan or Los Angeles, but from the consequence that Mexico had in his upbringing.

“Impermanence” has as a subject, the dissociation of immediate appreciation, in the face of the relentless passage of time. These two pieces transport us into the idea of violent ejection where automobiles, victims of some highway accident, rest under the constant beating of the sun and climate, calmly waiting for the arrival of rust and degradation.

The impressively detailed image soaks up the observer’s attention into realism and detail, but hides, among its thick permanent marker lines, the sublime metaphor of our frail modern idea of “forever”.

By the nature of the media and the materials, the beautiful and solid piece will be rusted and wiped away from the canvas by the great player of the game between the lives and the materials versus mortality.

The eternal “time” that will eventually overrun and continue without us, its march is as inevitable as it is permanent.

My work is a reinterpretation of artisan and manual techniques, which enables me to intimately relate with the creation of a piece of art. It is about the experience of creating with my hands.

Being born in Mexico enabled me to be in close relation with exceptional artisan masters and their work, which had been a great influence in my formation as an artist. Such is the case of the Huichol people, an indigenous group from the north/center-west part of Mexico and their strikingly beautiful Wixarika Art. They create colorful boards (made with yarn, thread or glass beads held together with wax) which are manifestations of their gods.

Inspired by the Huichol technique, I have developed my own stroke consisting in constructing an image the same way as if it was painted or draw but using embroidery thread or glass beads embedded to the surface with wax.

I am attracted by the way different cultures permeate one another, mainly, the esthetic hybrid resulting by the exchange of visual information. How the popular culture take elements from the visual language of the mainstream and high art and creates its own visual language.

The exhibition seeks to preserve and expand the idea of landscape painting. It is well known that Velasco was one of the greatest representatives of Mexican realism and landscaping. «Create landscapes from their landscapes”

CONTINUUM https://laestaciongallery.com/portfolio_page/continuum/ https://laestaciongallery.com/portfolio_page/continuum/#respond Mon, 14 Jan 2019 17:07:15 +0000 http://laestaciongallery.com/?post_type=portfolio_page&p=3296 20 years has passed since I moved overseas. Currently, I live and work in the USA among a plethora of different cultures. The United States is a nation of immigrants. Especially where I live in Los Angeles, there are a lot of Mexican people. When I worked as a waitress at a Japanese restaurant, I was surprised to discover that most of the kitchen staff was Mexican. My Mexican co-workers worked very hard until late hours every day. There are many people from other countries as well. The thing I like most about the United States is that it feels like a place where people from the entire world is helping build the nation. Every country has its own characteristics, cultures and laws. Although we live under “American” rules, we also have the “rules” of our countries of origin. You can call them “rules” or you can just call them customs. Because of this, things you considered obvious are easily contradicted, and you become aware of the fact that there is no such thing as a “correct” way of thinking. This comforts me.

Even if you don’t understand another culture or religion, everyone just accepts this by saying, “Well, I guess it’s okay that I don’t get it.” I am comforted that there exists as many worlds as there are people regardless of nation, religion, or gender. Although the USA is disliked by many people across the world, and the current President is especially problematic, I feel as an immigrant from Japan that it’s not a bad thing to look for the good things in a positive manner.

Even the art you see is from artists from many different countries. It’s great.

I think people might think my work is “ridiculous”. My body of work lacks uniformity. I make work based on spontaneous ideas depending on what interests me at a given moment, or something I read in a book or manga. I sometimes don’t remember why I made something. I express my surroundings and environment through the process of creation. There is nothing I want to say or declare.

A word I like in Buddhist philosophy is “Kuu” (Emptiness). Many things in the world do not have a fixed shape or form. The fact that you think there is such thing as a “self” is just an illusion. Such a thing never existed.

I think the same can be said about art. It’s like saying, “Please, come have a look!” when there is nothing inside.

If anything, the thing I want to do is work hard at making ridiculous things, and express the fact that it’s okay if you don’t understand what you don’t understand. There are no correct answers, and thoughts and opinions, like the wind, continuously wander in the air.

QUENTIN TARANTINO VOL.2 https://laestaciongallery.com/portfolio_page/quentin-tarantino-vol-2/ https://laestaciongallery.com/portfolio_page/quentin-tarantino-vol-2/#respond Mon, 14 Jan 2019 16:49:04 +0000 http://laestaciongallery.com/?post_type=portfolio_page&p=3254 The Discovery of that which moves you through the world of painting is a constant search… I use vibrant colors in contrast with intensely dark and detailed backgrounds, even if they are out of focus. My work is based on portraits, I like them to be realistic but without them losing my stroke. And for this to generate a visual impact.

I´ve always enjoyed motion pictures and this tribute to the work of Quentin Tarantino speaks loads of it. Taking scenes of movies considered as cult mainly within pop culture into paintings and observing how the spectator recognizes that scene and even remembers part of the dialogue and makes it part of the composition is very gratifying.

Images are carefully selected to achieve a moment of pause within the expression of the character. A never-ending scene for the spectator.
